Good paths all the way, and easy to follow (John Muir Way signs). Mostly off the road, and still direct. A really nice section through the woods in the middle....

Walking towards North Berwick you have ever changing perspectives of the relative distance between the islands of Fidra, Lamb, Craigleith, and Bass Rock....

There are parts of this route that are less pleasant (Gullane and immediately after), as you are on the pavement of a busy road, but on the whole it is still a nice walk and easy to follow. I split from it at Dirleton to go more directly to North Berwick (I now realise, following the John Muir cycle route), so I can't comment on the last loop....

Going north there are good views of Berwick Law, the Forth and the Scottish Highlands and southern Cairngorms if it’s very clear....
